nagsusumigaw na kuwintas

the president, as expected, delivered a powerful speech saturday directed at those wanting her to resign or oust her from power. although i feel she could've used a better analogy than the kitchen ("I FELT POLITICAL HEAT BUT IM STILL IN THE KITCHEN." (JUMPCUT) IM STILL IN THE KITCHEN BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE I BELONG, TO CONTINUE TO MAKE TOUGH CHOICES TO TURN THE ECONOMY AROUND AND NO ONE CAN DETER ME FROM THAT MISSION."), it was still a powerful speech.
but it wasn't what she said that made an impact on me but what accessories she was wearing. hanging on her neck, shining under the lights of the ceremonial hall, were a hundred school buildings, a million sacks of rice and a hundred pairs of combat boots for our poor soldiers. okay, okay. it might be an exaggeration. but wearing that diamond-studded necklace and matching earrings at a time when many families don't have enough to eat, when many children can't go to school because they can't pay the 50-pesos needed to get their report cards and when gov't employees are complaining that their salaries have not increased since 2001 was definitely in bad taste, to say the least."WE CANT HELP THE POOR BY UNDERMINING INVESTMENTS, DRIVING AWAY EMPLOYERS, NOT INVESTING IN INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMS. THAT'S MADNESS. YET THIS EXTREME MADNESS IS WHAT THE PURVEYORS OF INSTABILITY AND INTRIGUE HAVE BEGUN TO SOW." maybe, what she should've said was, "WE CAN'T HELP THE POOR BY SHOWING OFF OUR WEALTH AND MAKING THEM REALIZE HOW MUCH IS LACKING IN THEIR LIVES." or better yet, "WE CAN'T HELP THE POOR BY HAVING THIS NECKLACE AROUND MY NECK. I'D BETTER SELL THIS AND USE THE MONEY TO FEED HUNDREDS OF MALNOURISHED CHILDREN."
some of my officemates had the same reaction. one word to describe it - OFF! another - MANHID?

I agree with you and Jove, so in bad taste. So isn't it still a surprise na walang maka-relate sa lola ninyo? She has to learn something from Erap too, yung marunong umakting at sumunod sa script para yung mga tao nakaka-empathize sa kanya! Nagtatrabaho man siya ng maigi kung masisilaw naman ang mga mahihirap sa mga alahas nya everytime she visits the masa, e kung ma-snatch yon di ba? Hahahaha.

Great blog! I noticed that too, but I can't blog about it with credibility...

It's like talking about preferential option for the poor while sipping wine and eating good cheese...

To some other people, "'Hypocrite' is the greek word for 'actor.'" So who's the actress now?

(Been following your blog through Jove's. Keep it up! I'll keep following...)

Gloria has delusions of royalty. Did you see what she wore at the Brunei Royal Wedding? She wore yellow sash draped over her terno.
I can only surmise she is hiding a tiatra and is only waiting for the right time to display it in public.
Absolutely, her jewels worn around her neck in the recent palace function shows her insensitivity to say the least. "Manhid!" Inherited? I doubt it. Her mother use to wear modest attires when she was the First Lady.
